Teaching Advice - Assessment of students

Expert: Patricia Ireland-Williams - 2/13/2008

Question
Hello Mrs. Willams,

I had a questioning concerning assessment of elementary students. I was just wondering of effective ways that you can assess students on a daily basis. I was wondering if you could tell me from your experience which ones are easiest and which methods are the hardest to deal with?

Thank you for your time!

Answer
There are many ways of assessing students on a daily basis:

Observation
Conferencing
Written and Oral Quizzes
Formal Testing
Hands On Projects
Group Work
Participation
Oral reports to class
Written assignments

All are easy to do and none are difficult to complete if the teacher is well prepared.

Good luck on this project.

Patricia
