Teaching Advice - Computers

Question
Hello,
I am looking into working in the school system by teaching K-6 graders the basics in computers. I have my substitute certificate and have tutored children from ages 4 to 11 years old in all subject areas (math, science, language arts, social studies), but i am not sure if I would need a teaching degree to start teaching at a school? Basically, I would teach students the basics on how to use the computer, by incorporating into the program the curriculum.  Please advice me on what you think the best route would be to take.

Answer
Marima,

I have no idea about the requirements for teachers in your area..............most school districts require at least a four year degree with full teacher certification.  However, in the School Districts here in Arizona, many districts have programs which allow folks with out an educational degree to be hired based on a basic 4 year degree.  They then enter a training program which will provide them credentials for full certification.

Sometimes, though computer "teachers" have only 2 year degrees and are considered teacher aides.........this depends on the districts requirements.  I would suggest that you contact the school district (s) that you are interested in and ask someone in Human Resources what their requirements are (and of course, if there are job openings).

Best wishes in your pursuit.

Patricia
