Question I wasn't sure who to ask...I want to be a home economics teacher/ health teacher. My question is: do you know how to do a double major like health and home ec.? And is there any demand for home ec. teachers or is it hard to get a job being a home ec. teacher? Thanks a lot!
Answer Home Economics is no longer a required course as it used to be................once in a while you will find an elective course in High School but programs have changed a great deal. I would suggest that you major in Health and minor in Home Ec......if you can find a college that will prepare you for that.......there is also not a big emphasis on Health. In order to be sure, I would suggest that you contact your local university or college guidance office and ask them what is available to you. You might also contact local school districts (human resources) and ask them if they have a need for teachers in this area. Most K-12 programs focus on basic skills, and/or college prep and few have "life skills" anymore.
