Is it "If I were to go...." "If I were you..."
or
"If I was to go..." "If I was you...."
???
Thanks!
Answer It is "If I were to go..." and "If I were you..."
It is called the subjunctive mood, and applies to wishes as well (I wish I were thin). It is a hold-over from our Germanic language past reinforced by Latin influence.
