Question Thank you again!..I don't think my questions 1-4 went through..but here those are too, while I am at it......
If he keeps the contract till June and they decide to have him teach another GRADE LEVEL that starts in late August, would he still get paid for the summer....If he stayed with the SAME job he would be finished on June 15th, paid for the whole summer without working, and then resume the same job in late August...But if they switch him to a different grade level to teach within the district, will he still get paid for being off this summer?
2)...I guess if they do not have him teach another grade, nor renew his contract for the grade he teaches now, I guess there is no unemployment at all.??
3) He is going for an interview for another school district on TUESDAY.
I guess he won't even mention that he has been at this bad school for 3 months....I guess there is (no State CA TEachers List) they can check and see his PRESENT job listed as him being hired there???? Didn't you see some LIST that keeps track of where all teachers work and anyone can check this listing? Like if he started a teacher job in JAN would he be on the listing NOW or does it take a year to add him to this State list of all teacher jobs held?
4) Do employers from different school districts alwways check this list to make sure you have included every single teaching job you ever had and it matches up with your resume?
I guess the UNION will have to prevent some bad recommendation or else I don't think he can list that he ever worked there because what good would it do to even mention it at all??????
Thanks...The reason I am helping this person is because he is so TIRED AND EMOTIONALLY EXHAUSED TO THE MAX to even fight this.....He is 53 years old and this is just horrid to have to deal with ..such petty nonsense really...is what the Union says...By the way, this school district is one of the WORST IN THE WHOLE UNITED STATES......Angie
Answer 1) He determined how he would be paid when he signed his contract......month to month or to extend through the summer. He can call Human Resources or Payroll to check what he chose if he can't remember.
2) Unemployment would not apply in this case because he is a contractual employee.
3) Each State has a teacher certification division that tracks a teacher's job status, etc. If a prospective employer wanted to check this, they could do so but it is unlikely. Again, though, I believe that ANY deception, (such as not being totally upfront about a job experience) could work against getting hired. Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy.
4)Most school districts have very skilled individuals in verifying the accuracy of resumes, transcripts, recommendations and employment records. As a Principal, a person at District always did in depth reference checks before I could even select final candidates. I then had to call at least 3 individuals and talk to them about the candidate before I could even recommend someone for hire. I have heard that since I retired, in 2002 things have gotten even more strict. In many states, falsifying documents like this is a felony that if convicted can put someone in jail (and of course, be permanently removed from all contact with schools).
In terms of the union, remember administrators are usually seen as "the enemy" so I don't have a great deal of insight on the inner workings. I will say that in the past, when a teacher was in the wrong and I was in the right, the Union ruled in my favor because they couldn't afford to let problem teachers give them a bad reputation by compromising their own standards.
