Question
I am a good student but I am not disciplined. Someday, I'll sit down and drown myself into books and on other days I may just fritter the day away dawdling around. How do I inculcate discipline in life to perform better at academics?

Answer
Dear Dinsa

Thank you for your question. Lack of discipline could be a result of decrease in motivation, anxiety over something else that is drawing your attention, or avoidance of some feelings. Could it also be that you are over exerting your mind and it is trying to get a rest?

On the days that you find yourself dwadling around try allowing your self a set time for your mind to be idle, then when that time is up sit with the books and do your best to work. Even if you read light material for the time it will help to re-focus your mind. Find some work  to do that is interesting and stimulating; or try a different activity- if you are reading all the time then try doing math problems or worksheets, or vary the method of studying. Try putting your work on tape and listening to them perhaps outside or change the environment.
Your mind could be so used to the same environment and same routine of studying that a change may stimulate it.
Hope this helps.
Good luck
Dr.Marilyn Robb
