Subject: Could you please answer a few of my questions? (academic honesty)

Question
Hello,
My name is Lorelei Farrar and I am writing a paper on academic honesty.  I
would appreciate it if you could answer some of my questions.
What would you do when children cheat?
If you found out they have cheated?
Why?
What happens to children when they cheat?
Why do they cheat?
Have you ever had any huge issues with children who cheat?
Please explain the situation.
Have you ever caught a child who forged a signature?
If so, what happened?
what were the consequences?
Thank you,
Lorelei Farrar.

Answer
I have not dealt with this issue often because most teachers observe cheating and as a result, take care of the problem within their own classrooms.  I think that most kids cheat because they do not trust their own ability to complete the task successfully.

I have dealt with the forged signature issue and when I did, I always had the child call their parent and inform them of the forgery.  I also have held the child back from the activity if it was on a field trip permission slip.

When the forgery has been on a report card or any legal document, I have called for a teacher/parent conference where in we all let the child know how serious this is.

In one case, I brought in a Police Officer who worked on campus to talk to the child about how serious forgery can be.

Best wishes on your paper!
