Question What rules do you give your students about length of quote or amount of information from an article that can be used? If students present music or video for class presentations, what rules do you give students?
Answer Hi,
I don't have any hard and fast rules. I have used a "rule of thumb" of about 10% of total material may be quoted. With music or video clips, I would say not more than 10% of the time alloted without a specific reason, always making sure that nothing violated fair use in the copyright law (and that I would have to look up).
You don't say what class this is for, and that might make a difference. I have taught Language Arts in the past, and now I teach college composition...
