Question
hello I am 18 years old.I have been homeschooled for the last few years of highschool, and I tryed to go back but they said the Christian based homeschool I had been in wasnt credible so I was put back in the 9th grade now I am just drifting in a sense because my parents pulled me out of public school and now I am in homeschool again except since I had spent half a year in public school they too put me back in 9th grade and now I am so frustrated what can I do I am on an 11th grade level ready for 12th grade. My parents are thinking GED but I want to finish high school.Could I take a placement test and advance in a public high school to the 12th grade.

Answer
I am sorry to hear of your unfortunate situation.  As long as you are underage, your parents are the individuals who must make the decisions regarding your education.  High School standards are quite high these days and not all homeschool curriculums are in alignment.  You would have to ask a counselor or administrator at the high school whether you could be placed back into school based on a placement test.  In Arizona, where I live, this would not be allowed.

A GED would give you the ability to enter a junior college, if your parents would allow that.  That way you would have the socialization you desire as well as be on your way toward developing skills for a career.

You must be honest with your parents about your concern and frustration..........hopefully you can work together in order to come to some solution to this situation.

Best wishes

Patricia
