Question Where do I look to see how much a company has cash on hand? Is this in their Prospectus? And can I see it on line.
Answer Hi Bill,
If the company is just going public then the prospectus will tell you the cash on hand. Otherwise you should have a look at the latest quarterly reports. Look on the balance sheet and cash is in the current assets section. When I consider cash I look at cash on hand and cash equivalents like short-term investments. I DO NOT include restricted cash as it is not available for general company use. I also look at bank indebtedness in current liabilities. I net the two out to find out the true cash position. For a longer term view of liquidity you should also look at the long-term investments and long-term debt.
