Question
I have just discovered that my old Teddy has been kept by my Mother. I would very much like to identify him. He bears (sorry!) no labels. He is golden furred, about 18" tall, fully jointed, has three black stiched claws on paws & feet and, when rocked, "jingles". He was made between 1955-1960(ish). Any ideas would be welcome. Many Thanks J.G.

Answer
Hi there

What a lovely treasure to find, well going on what you said it sounds like a chiltern teddy, but it is very difficult without pictures to tell you.

Chilterns had a bell in the ear mostly, and Merrythought had bells inside their Cheeky bears, but the Cheeky is very distinct.

The best thing for you to do is to photograph him back and front laying flat, and send the Pictures into the Teddy Bear Times magazine, the experts there will pinpoint the bear for you as they will be able to identify him from the pic.

Place it for Joe she is very good with this sort of thing. Their website for contacts also is: http://www.teddybeartimes.com/

They have special experts on the older teddy bear, a Chiltern is normally gold coloured with dark oval paddy paws, his nose is shorter than a Steiff, Steiff did at the time put 3 claws on their bears, but I have not heard of a Steiff with a jingle.

Hope this helps
Tanya
