Question
QUESTION: I am 18 years old and there is a girl at my school who is obsessed with me. The problem is that she is 13. I don't really understand why she likes me I have done nothing to lead her on or anything like that.  I know there is no way I could date her.  I just don't know how to tell her that there is no way this would ever workout.  We ride the same bus(public transportation) home, one day it was snowing so I let her wait for her mom in my car. Now I am afraid that if I tell her that it would never workout that it will end in accusations that I raped her or something like that, I never touched her or anything, but she might be crazy.  How do I tell her so that it doesn't end with me in trouble with the law?

ANSWER: I recommend to speak to your parents and a trusted teacher about this. She sounds like she has a problem that needs a professional. I recommend speaking also to my coworker James Windell Parenting Teen expert. He's a expert in the psychology of teens. I also want to tell you I had a friend who had a similar problem to yours. The parents weren't happy about him, yet the trusted teacher did help him out.

P.S. Can I ask your state?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Thanks, I will talk to James Windell.  I talked to my school councilor about it before I asked here and all that really did was make me paranoid about the law.  I will talk to him again now that I have more Information.

I live in Colorado

Answer
Your school councilor should be able to help you. Yes, there is a law issue and this is where it gets tricky for my self to advise you. As I am not a lawyer and I don't want to say something that will make this "obsessed person" be more mad at you, I feel it is better to have your local team work with you on this. You should ask a lawyer for all legal advice. I cannot advise on legal advice nor can I give more than my two cents worth of advice.

Your local team should be your parents, school, councilor, and a trusted teacher. Her parents may be unhappy with this, yet if they care about her, they need to know about this and get her help soon.

Keep me up to date on this.

P.S. In my state they allow certain types of recordings to be done without the other person or party's approval(unless the law has changed). Many state's however have a policy at hand that local citizens cannot do such anymore. I am not a lawyer in your state so I cannot state this is legal or illegal in your state, yet you may want to check into the law.

The recording law helped my father in a legal disagreement a number of years ago when I was younger. The above is not legal advice and recording without approval when not allowed under the law could be a violation of the law and may get you in serious trouble. Also the recording idea may not fix any of your problems if allowed.
