Teen Dating Issues - Afraid of Commitment

Expert: Nicole - 6/19/2009

Question
Hi. I was asked out. I mean being asked out by an attractive guy is good, but I rejected him. I think I have a fear of commitment, but I don't know why. How can I fix it?

Answer
Hey Melissa. Having a fear of commitment is pretty normal. You may have been hurt in the past and are afraid to open up. Or, maybe you are just very mature and have your guard up because you know you don't want to get hurt in the future. Either way, at some point you have to tell yourself that you can either keep being scared or you can go for it. We all need to have a little more confidence in ourselves and hopefully our opinions. Next time you meet a guy who seems wholesome and nice just give it a try. You'll never know until you give it a shot! Good luck!
