About Joanne
Expertise
I am a teenager myself, so I can relate to most questions a troubled teen may ask. I can answer questions like: "What does he/she mean when they said this?" or questions like: "What should I do about this?"

Experience
I have seen and helped loved ones through many teen dating problems myself so I am quite experienced in this area (If I do say so myself ^^), I know how to break up with people gently, and how to go up to someone alone. I would be glad to help anyone I can.

Teen Dating Issues - race

Expert: Joanne - 6/29/2009

Question
would race play a role in the way that a girl decides who she wants to go out with? im 16 and i go to a predominantly white high school and both of my parents are from india but i was born in america and i am very american. the girl i like is white but she is still a very nice girl we are very good friends. i know that obviously race wouldnt affect her view on friendships but is it possible that it would affect her view upon having aboyfriend/girlfriend relationship

Answer
Hey there,
I understand where you are coming from. (My parents were both born in China, but I was born in Canada) I speak from experience here, if it doesn't affect her view on friendships, it most likely will not affect her veiw on relationships. However, this also depends on her parents. The bottom line is, if her, or her parents have a big issue about it, it is not worth it. Unless she is worth spending time opening her parent's eyes (if the parent's don't approve), then I wouldn't invest the effort in it. Friends is okay too, right? Ask her how she feels about it, and how her parents would feel about it, and get back to me!
