About Z. Amanda Chen
Expertise
I have always been interested in fashion and actually design/redesign some of my own clothes. Since I'm a teen, I can answer questions relating to teenage fashion, what kinds of clothes make you look older or younger than what you actually are, and where you can find bargains that resemble designer clothes. However, since I'm usually focused on the new, I don't know much about vintage clothing. Additionally, although I know a lot about skirts, shorts, and shoes, outerwear fashion is beyond me.

Experience
I design or redesign some of my own clothes, and I am constantly trying out new looks. Additionally, I've also learned quite a few fashion tricks on how to stand out and how to blend in.

Education/Credentials
None.

Answer
Hi there,
It looks like you are slender and of average height.  Depending on what you're comfortable with, I would suggest a sheath, a-line, or mini-dress.

The sheath dress would give you curves and add extra height to your figure, if you get one long enough.
The a-line would accentuate your top and make you appear taller as well.  Just make sure to stay away from halter top or strapless dresses if you don't have the bust to support the look.
The mini-dress would go by the old adage of "if you love it, flaunt it."  Seriously, if you have legs you are proud of, don't be afraid to show them off.

Here are some sites that show you examples of what types of dresses I mean:

Don't try to coordinate your look to the theme of the dance.  Believe, me, you don't want to end up looking like a part of the decorations.  Instead, chose colors that are your favorites.  It's a proven theory that people are attracted to the color that looks best on them.  Additionally, since you are slender, don't be afraid to pile on the lace, frills, or sequins that make you shine.  The tiny decorations would add a lot to your look.

For shoes, since I guarantee you will be dancing for at least half the night, you will want to wear ones that you are comfortable with.  If you decide to buy a mini-dress, you can safely wear a comfortable pair of flats.  But if you are going to wear a dress that's below your knee, think of wearing some heels.  If you aren't concerned about people looking at your feet (which, I assure you, people will be too busy dancing to notice shoes), wear wedges or platforms.  They are really comfortable even with their height.  But if you are shoe-conscious, pick out a pair of dress shoes that are no more than 3 inches high.  Anything higher than 3 inches is a twisted ankle waiting to happen.  And unless you are careful/experienced, don't wear stilettos, they'll just make your perfect night hell.

Since your formal is tomorrow, I would recommend you try to wear a pair of already broken-in shoes.  But if you are insistent on new shoes to go with your dress, I've always trusted Caparros for comfortable, beautiful shoes that don't need an extensive breaking-in period.  Just wear them around the house for about an hour and they should be fine.
