Subject: I need help to look more "put together"

Question
Hi, I'm Katie a 17 year old junior in Florida.  I went to a private school up until I was in high school and once thrown into a world without uniforms, I fell flat on my face when it came to dressing.

For the past few years I've been relying on jeans, flip flops, and tee shirts, but I'm tired of looking blah and want to appear neater and more "put together."

My body type is average I guess.  I wear a 34C bra; have a 26" waist, and 36" hips.  My biggest body gripe is that I feel bottom heavy.

I see girls all around me wearing color coordinating skirts, belts, earrings, and shoes and am so envious of their fashion abilities.  I prefer a bright and clean looks because they give me the vibe of friendliness.

If you could give me advice on what to choose for my body type, what stores I could look into, or what I should look for in putting together an outfit I would be forever grateful :)

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi Katie, wow i can't imagine wearing a uniform, lol! Anyways, jeans are perfectly fine, unless you wanna go for a denim short skirt (long skirts can look to dressy or awkward) or capri pants. You have a nice body shape, curvy with a small waist. You should try a "fitted tee" which is like a t-shirt, but skinnier and usually stretchy and have cool logos on the front. If you're worried about looking bottom-heavy, wear darker jeans with brighter colors on top. A necklace (in a matching color, black, white, gold for bright colors like red, yellow, silver for cooler colors like blue, darker greens) will attract attention away from the bottom half. As for earrings, hoops will always look good, or diamond (cubic zirconium, whatever budget allows for, i don't own any diamond jewelry anyways) studs. Another kind of shirt to try could be a button-down for girls, maybe with some stripes, and a belt in the same or contrasting color around the skinniest part of your body or lower like around your hips, very cute. Flip flops are nice, but try flats in a color like brown or black, or if you want to a bright color and wear it with a same or like color shirt. (ex. Blue shirt goes with blue, brown, black, gold, or silver flats. red shirt could go with black, not brown so much but it depends, gold, red, and orangey red flats. black shirt goes with any color flats exept brown, if you where gold or silver it should match any jewelry) Experiment with what you like, accesories are a lot of fun, and eventually you'll figure out what you like to wear (be happy, that's your "style"!)
