AboutZ. Amanda Chen Expertise I have always been interested in fashion and actually design/redesign some of my own clothes. Since I'm a teen, I can answer questions relating to teenage fashion, what kinds of clothes make you look older or younger than what you actually are, and where you can find bargains that resemble designer clothes. However, since I'm usually focused on the new, I don't know much about vintage clothing. Additionally, although I know a lot about skirts, shorts, and shoes, outerwear fashion is beyond me.
Experience I design or redesign some of my own clothes, and I am constantly trying out new looks. Additionally, I've also learned quite a few fashion tricks on how to stand out and how to blend in.

Answer Dear Ashley,
Adding big, noticeable diamonites to your possibly silk prom dress is very risky, even to an experienced seamstress. When you use iron-on rhinestone transfers, you are sticking the stones onto the fabric and then ironing that spot to hold the stone. However, silk is very hard material to work with for a novice. Once you iron silk, the results are unpredictable. In the worst case, the fabric could become permanently wrinkled or slightly burned/discolored. In the best case, the rhinestones will be attached firmly, but the fabric you just ironed will become stiff and non-flowing.
But, if you are willing to shell out about $50 total, you may be able to exact iron the stones to the spots you want, avoiding the problems in the above paragraph. For this, you would need a compact of crystals and a hot-fix crystal tool. You can find these at JoAnn's (the first is the tool and the second link is the crystal set) http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog_old.jsp?CATID=101641&PRODID=166816

The problem with this method is that you have to be careful. Once the crystal is on the fabric, it's not going to come off again. If you use this method, here are some links to help you (the first is a video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5s-qpMdNsA
