Expert: Elizabeth Date: 4/24/2008 Subject: Uniform?
Question I go to a private school with a really hideous uniform. The uniform code is extremely strict and the clothes are expensive, so it's hard to make the uniform look better. There is a white blouse (short sleeve in summer and long in winter) and a dark green dress, with a waistband which comes to beneath our hips! Its really ugly, but there is a woolen vest option, would that help the shape of the dress? Any tips? much appreciated!!

Answer Omg! I feel bad for you, they do sound rather hideous! The woolen vest would only help if it comes in at the wiast and fits around your curves (just meaning that it should fit closely). But you also have to see if the vest looks all right. I mean, if its ugly, it probably won't help anything much anyway. For the white blouse, you could try belting it, if your school will allow it, or tie a ribbon around your waist. Again, make sure it doesnt look ugly because, obviously, that would be ugly! I'm sorry, but there isn't a whole lot you can do for ugly uniforms, especially with strict dress code rules. Or maybe, you could talk to the principal (or whoever is at the head of your school) and suggest a uniform comittee or make it a project where everyone in school (or home ec class, or in a certain grade, or whatever) make a uniform pattern and people vote on their favorites. You never know, they might think its a good "learning experience"!
