About Krista Expertise I can usually answer questions about alternative fashion styles. (e.g. scene, emo, punk, goth, hipster), I also know a good amount of hair and makeup tips connected to these styles as well. I can not answer any questions on the "prep" style, because I'm not a follower of it & I'm always behind on this style by about a year. I don't have anything against people who dress this way AT ALL, but all I'm saying is I'd be giving you the wrong advice. There are many experts in this category who can answer your questions a lot better than I can. Also, english is my only language, so if you send me any mail in french, or german, or whatever, I'll just end up not being able to respond & then I'll get all guilty
Experience I have been following alternative fashions for quite a while now. I've always been complimented on my original style, & I know how to find good clothes in any store at all. from hot topic, to abercrombie & fitch.

Answer Hi Priscilla. :)
Agh, I was halfway through your answer when i accidentally kicked something under my desk and my computer shut off, so this is my second time writing this.
This is a little long, so I guess you can skim through it and read what you find really really necessary.
I think the style you're referring to is "scene" which I think started out from the emo subculture, but evolved into more brighter colors while still staying a bit on the alternative style.
You can find clothing like this anywhere you look, literally, from thrift shops, to wet seal.
Personally, I think the best place to buy alternate clothing is Hot Topic. (I know Hot Topic is pretty lame, but my philosophy is the shops don't matter, the clothes you buy from them do.)
You really have to watch out in there, though. some of the things they sell are straight out of 2005. (e.g. terrycloth wristbands, striped nylons (they itch.) jelly bracelets, and red and black band logo t-shirts that are covered in skulls.
some things in hot topic i would suggest are:
-skelanimals (not sure how long the trend will last, but the clothing is adorable.)
- perez hilton's line (i guess you have to like him, but the graphic tees are adorable)
- their printed skinny jeans (really cute with high heels.)
Another scene trend, besides the really loud vibrant, is the plain, retro, american apparel model-look. You obviously, can find the clothes at american apparel. This look can also have a bit of a grunge side to it also, with long baggy tees, knit hats and scarves, plain skinny jeans, and then a nice pair of high heels.
As far as american apparel goes, I know their clothing is used for a lot of shops that sell print on tees, as well as their tops are used for band logo tees.
I think my favourite item by them is probably the "flex fleece zip hoodie" (the purple one is highly, HIGHLY popularized by Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta (I admit to owning the same color. not a stalker and/or groupie..) but the thing is so comfortable and hasn't become all gross yet after washing it (yet), that I'm thinking about buying another one. http://store.americanapparel.net/f497.html
As for makeup, vibrant is good, but make sure it compliments your skin tone, and doesn't make you look like a disco queen (admitted to have made this mistake once. just once.) Stay away from the hot topic brand (very useless, so i've heard. their nail polish isn't that wonderful, either.) , and go towards MAC's eyeshadows.
Anyways, aside from that the best idea for keeping up with the trends is just keeping track of what other people of alternative styles are wearing.
I think the best fashion icon of the whole scene style is probably Hanna Beth, http://hannabeth.buzznet.com/
who has the retro-pinup look about her, which is pretty amazing.
or, for the more loud styles, take a couple cues (only a couple) from kiki kannibal
kikikannibal.buzznet.com
or audrey kitching
audrey.buzznet.com
(DISCLAIMER: Both Kiki and Audrey have arrogance problems.)
Anyways, I hope this gave you a basic outline of the whole emo/scene style. If there's anything else you'd like to know, feel free to ask a follow up, or anything you'd like to question me on, same deal.
Like I said, hoped this helped!
