About Junko
Expertise
I can answer most questions pertaining to teen health, thought I cannot give medical advice. I can explain medical terminology, describe medical conditions and hopefully help people understand what is going on with their bodies. If I don`t know an answer to a question, being a medical student, I can easily find out the answer since I have many resources I can refer to.

Experience
I am a 4th year medical student.

Question
Hey,

I had a spot of pink at the end of my stool, and then a different piece of stool w/ a chunk of dark red sticking out. I did have tomatoes yesterday in a sub I think. Dont you think if I had blood in stool it would be on toilet paper when I wipe?

thanks

Answer
Hi Kevin,

I think that if you had tomatoes and then saw some red solid pieces in your stool, it's likely that the red is not blood.  It's also likely that if you have blood in your stool, then you'll also see blood on your toilet paper, but this is not always the case.

You've mentioned seeing red spots in your stool before.  If this is something you see a lot, and the red cannot be explained by what you've eaten, you should see a doctor.
