Answer
Shelby Yeater,

Thank you for your question.  Metabolism is the breakdown of food and its transformation into energy rather than fat.

You cannot "spot-reduce" fat - that is, to selectively loose fat in certain areas of your body (like your thighs, legs, and butt) but not in other areas.

Everyone tells you that your legs are not fat.  Listen to them!  While we all find imperfections with our bodies, they are ours for life, and we all must learn to appreciate them for being imperfect!  :-)

You can control your metabolism by exercising.  Other than that, it is controlled by enzymes, hormones, and your DNA!

The only formula you can depend on too loose weight is eating less and exercising more.  Weight loss requires effort and commitment.  There is no magic pill to take.

Despite the popularity of various diets out there, they all have weaknesses.  In the long run, the best way to achieve and maintain weight is to eat less and exercise more.  Eat the right amounts of the right kinds of foods, and be more physically active.  (Brisk walking is the best exercise of all and has been shown in some studies to be even more effective than running for weight loss!)

As cliché as it may sound, remember that what matters most is not your outside appearance; it's about how you are as a whole person!

All the best,
John
