About Junko
Expertise
I can answer most questions pertaining to teen health, thought I cannot give medical advice. I can explain medical terminology, describe medical conditions and hopefully help people understand what is going on with their bodies. If I don`t know an answer to a question, being a medical student, I can easily find out the answer since I have many resources I can refer to.

Experience
I am a 4th year medical student.

Question
I would like to ask whether teenagers are easily tired. Why?How to overcome it?

Answer
Hi Jack,

During puberty, teens go through many hormonal changes.  One of these changes is the secretion of melatonin (the hormone that makes us sleepy)later in the night.  Since melatonin is released late, teens tend to go to sleep later but still have to wake up early to go to school.  This, in addition to their increased need for sleep, results in an often sleep-deprived teen.

Keeping a regular sleep/wake schedule and not drinking anything caffeinated after about 4pm can help you sleep better.  Also, make sure not to overload yourself with too many extracurricular activities.  It also helps to take some time out to relax and wind down as bedtime approaches.

I hope this helps!
