Question When I get my period, I get severe cramps on the first day, and I am unable to go to school. Sometimes I feel nauseous and vomit. I heard birth control can lessen the pain and make your period lighter, but I don't want to consume medication that can interrupt my monthly cycle and result in unwanted side affects. What can I do to lessen the pain?!
Answer Hi D.H.,
I'm sorry you have such bad menstrual cramps. You can try taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, Advil or Alleve to lessen your pain.
You can also trying soaking in a hot bath or using a heating pad on your abdomen when you have your cramps. Sometimes regular exercise can decrease the severity of your cramps as well as being good for your overall health.
Some women also find that massage, yoga and other meditation techniques help as well. Even acupuncture seems to work for some.
I hope these suggestions help you! If not, sometimes birth control is the only thing that helps.
