About Junko Expertise I can answer most questions pertaining to teen health, thought I cannot give medical advice. I can explain medical terminology, describe medical conditions and hopefully help people understand what is going on with their bodies. If I don`t know an answer to a question, being a medical student, I can easily find out the answer since I have many resources I can refer to.
Expert: Junko Date: 10/10/2004 Subject: Pain in jaw? Wisdom teeth?
Question Hey,
Do you think the annoying pain in my jaw that I have had in last week or so could be from wisdom teeth coming in or what? It is only in the left side of my mouth though. It hurts when I just chew or stretch it or something or without doing anything. I looked in the back of my mouth and so did my mom and did not see any white showing...ugh...only me
thanks
Answer Kevin,
Yes, your jaw pain could be from your wisdom teeth, especially if your gums are sore also. Your wisdom teeth could be moving but just haven't broken the surface of your gums yet.
It's also quite possible that you may have what's called TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint). Actually, TMJ seems to make more and more sense considering what you've described to me, especially if you grind or clench your teeth.
Here's a good website that describes what TMJ is and what you can do about it: http://www.entnet.org/healthinfo/topics/tmj.cfm
