About Junko
Expertise
I can answer most questions pertaining to teen health, thought I cannot give medical advice. I can explain medical terminology, describe medical conditions and hopefully help people understand what is going on with their bodies. If I don`t know an answer to a question, being a medical student, I can easily find out the answer since I have many resources I can refer to.

Experience
I am a 4th year medical student.

Subject: Pain from neck into chest and upper stomach...

Question
Hey,

Since yesterday I have had pain in my upper stomach, inside my chest,in the front and back of my neck, and it seems at times even into my head. When I burp or yawn or something there is pain inside my neck. It is hard to explain. When I breath in, my chest is tight. At times its hard to explain. Seems like theres gas inside there at times that hurts cause it wont release or something like that. When I swallow there is pain from my neck into chest.

This all came on sudden at about 4pm yesterday when I was at work. My mom seems to think I probly pulled something. I am not sure. This morning I woke up at 4am and it was really bad,but not as bad when i woke up.

Is it something serious?

thanks

Answer
Hi Kevin,

Are you having any trouble keeping food down?  It's possible that there may be something wrong with your esophagus (the tube that runs from your mouth to your stomach).  The symptoms you're experiencing might be due to food getting stuck in your esophagus.  Since there are a number of reasons this could be happening, you should see a doctor to get a proper diganosis.    Even if there's nothing wrong with your esophagus, it would be good to see a doctor to find out what's going on.

I hope this helps.
