About Junko
Expertise
I can answer most questions pertaining to teen health, thought I cannot give medical advice. I can explain medical terminology, describe medical conditions and hopefully help people understand what is going on with their bodies. If I don`t know an answer to a question, being a medical student, I can easily find out the answer since I have many resources I can refer to.

Experience
I am a 4th year medical student.

Subject: Question about Testicle..

Question
Dear Junko,

I am a 17 year old male, and for all my life my right testicle has been backwards? The reason I say that is because the epididymis is located on the front of the testicle rather than on the back(Although my left testicle, it is located on the back) ... But my question is lately I have been experiencing pain in that tescitlce, could you tell me if that sounds like a medical condition that could be something involved with my testicle being backwards, and is it normal to have one testicle backwards like that? Thanks so much... I have been worrying excessively!! Thanks!

Answer
Hi William,

If your right testicle is truly backwards, you have what's called an inverted testis.  Having an inverted testis makes you more likely to experience something called testicular torsion.  Testicular torsion is a condition that involves rotation of your testicle which can result in compromised blood flow to the affected testicle.  Some symptoms to look out for are sudden onset of excrutiating pain in the scrotum and groin area, swollen testicle, possible vomiting, and elevated testis.  I'm not sure if this is what you have, but it's a possibility and needs to be treated immediately.  Regardless, you should definitely seek medical attention as soon as possible.
