About Junko Expertise I can answer most questions pertaining to teen health, thought I cannot give medical advice. I can explain medical terminology, describe medical conditions and hopefully help people understand what is going on with their bodies. If I don`t know an answer to a question, being a medical student, I can easily find out the answer since I have many resources I can refer to.
Question I just had sex for my first time and now I'm really sore and it feels as if my vulva is swollen and there is one little soft bump. Do I have an STD?
Answer Hi Jess,
Being sore after your first sexual experience is not uncommon. If you continue to have more sex, the soreness should go away.
As for whether or not you have a sexually transmitted infection (STI), it's hard for me to say if you do or don't. Did you practice safe sex with your partner? It's possible that the bump you mentioned is a symptom of an STI, but it may also be nothing. Where is your bump? What does it look like? Do you have any other symptoms? Any discolored or odorous discharge? Any pain?
The safest thing for you to do would be to see a doctor to eliminate any doubt. If you want complete confidentiality (don't want parents to know, etc.), you can go to a Planned Parenthood, and they should be able to provide you with free STI services. In the meantime, you probably shouldn't have sex until you're sure you're disease-free.
