About Junko Expertise I can answer most questions pertaining to teen health, thought I cannot give medical advice. Question i notice that in the last week that my breasts have been leaking a milky fluid I'm only 15 is this normal?
Answer Hi Brittany,
It is normal to have a small amount of yellowish nipple discharge around the time of your period but it's not normal to have milky discharge unless you are pregnant feeding or have recently been pregnant. When this happens, it's called galactorrhea. There are a number of things that can cause galactorrhea including a number of medications (birth control pills or antidepressants). Are you taking any medications? Galactorrhea can also be caused by low thyroid hormone levels (comes from a gland in your neck) or, in rare cases, a non-cancerous pituitary tumor.
You should see your doctor to find out if the discharge you're seeing is normal and to find out what is causing it if it isn't. If it isn't normal, all of the things that cause milky discharge can be treated so try not to worry too much!
