Question Hi, I'm almost 16 years old and had my first period 8 months ago and then I never got another one. I'm wondering if there might be a problem and if maybe I should see a Dr.
Answer Hi Julie,
It's not unusual to have irregular periods for up to 3 years after you first start menstruating. However, since you got your first period at a later age, and it's getting close to a year since you had your first period, I'm leaning towards recommending that you go see your doctor.
Some other factors that could contribute to an irregular period are excessive exercise, low body weight, poor diet, stress. Do any of these things apply to you? Also, does anyone else in your family have irregular periods?
I think it would reasonable to either wait for a few more months to see if your period comes or just go see your doctor now. If you decide to wait, I would see a doctor after it's been a year since you had your last period.
