About Junko Expertise I can answer most questions pertaining to teen health, thought I cannot give medical advice. I can explain medical terminology, describe medical conditions and hopefully help people understand what is going on with their bodies. If I don`t know an answer to a question, being a medical student, I can easily find out the answer since I have many resources I can refer to.

Question hi, I'm 16(going on 17 in the fall) and I'm only 5'4" but i weigh somewhere between 155 and 160. No matter what i do I can't seem to lose the weight. I eat salad everyday for lunch and I eat fairly healthy. I also run in track. I am relatively active but nothing seems to work. I have heard that drinking water may help and I drink water all the time. How can i lose this weight? I would really like to look good for this upcoming summer and the beginning of my senior year. Help please!
Answer Hi Renee,
The key to losing weight is to use up more calories than you take in and to exercise. You need to eat a healthy diet, watch your portion size and exercise, but you probably already know this. Make sure to eat breakfast and try not to eat too heavily later in the day. If food is an issue, try keeping a food diary to really make yourself aware of what you're eating.
If you feel that you're trying really hard to lose weight and it's just not coming off, you may need to seek outside help. You could try to see a nutritionist to help you evaluate your diet. You could also try a weight loss program. Finally, you may want to see your doctor. There are some medical conditions that make it difficult to lose weight. Most of these conditions are easily treated and, once treated, you should find it easier to lose weight.
