Question Hello, I was wondering if you can help me out with some advice. O.k so i make drum&bass/electronica as a hobby/talent. And iv'e been posting music videos of my music on sites like "youtube" and every now and then im recieving emails saying "if at all possible can you send me some tracks of yours, i really like them". Well being me, i sent the music via email for free, and by now ive sent my music for free (with copyrights) to almost everyone who sent me an email. now im getting worried, should i start selling my music??
Answer aslong as you have the copyrights to the music. Make sure you have the copyrights thats important. Somebody could steal your music.
Also, I personally don't think you should start selling your music just yet. However if your fanbase is big enough and your getting alot of views online and have a lot of subscribers etc, then you should make a 'compliation' or like an album every so often and sell them at reasonable prices in CD format and online to download, although you'd have to set up various ways to accomplish that, a website, a server, a paypal account. If you can afford all that and have the time then sure why not.
However I personally think you should not sell you music you should continue to send it out for free because this is a good way of PR in my opinion. If I was making tunes and people were asking me for them, and I had them copyrighted and stuff, I wouldn't start making money until I had a large enough fanbase/ had a contract with a record label.
See, I dont really know the ins and outs of your situation, if your fanbase is big enough and people are willing then definitely sell your tunes at a reasonable price. However if it has only been 10 or 20 people then ya know, people might stop asking for your tunes altogether.
Get back to me with a link of some sort, im fairly interested in what your talking about. :D
