Question
Hey, I'm doing a research paper for college, and id like to consider this an interview. I am looking for effects on teens due to their music tastes. i myself am in love with metal, Christian mostly. i read your answer to another person.. but it wasn't quite specific enough. I'm looking for negative effects... coming from a Christian background your opinions might be different, but i am still interested. Thanks.

Answer
Well like i said to the other person, ALL types of music have negative effects. Not just metal. Some negative effects could be the lyrics are taken way to seriously. Such as a rapper or band says "Kill your parents" and someone actually does it. You listen to the lyrics and they say "Stand up for yourself" so you end up punching someone in the face. An example i guess would be Columbine. Although music was not the only factor in that incident, it was a factor. Also, the general atmosphere the artist takes could be a negative effect. Such as Rap artists change the audience into "gansters". They all want to be like the artist so the individual gives up their individuality and conforms to be like that one person along with a million other people. THe last negative effect I can think of is the artist's background. Such as if a 70s band who did drugs for inspiration. Some people might think it's cool to do drugs. It might give them inspiration. So to sum it up, 3 negative effects are 1.taking lyrics way to seriously 2. Giving up your individual sense to be like your favorite artist 3. The artist did drugs, you do drugs cause the artist did it so it must be ok. Sorry if i took a while to reply, it's been a long week. But anyway, even with these negative effects, i still love my metal.
