My girlfriend took postinor 2 levonorgestrel according to the medicine instruction on 21st June. That day was her last day of menstrual cycle of the month.
After taking the medicine, she was having bleeding starting from 26th June until today (28th).
My question is, how long we should expect the bleeding will last? 3 days? 1 week? For your information, she doesn't experience any other side effect and she is not on any long term medication as well.
Though it's just 2 days of bleeding, i'm getting worried that it's more than normal side effect. Please advice when should we seek a doctor advice if the bleeding keep going on.
Thank you very much.
Regards,
Daren
Answer Dear Daren,
The bleeding seems to be an expected side effect of the medication, according to the following:
Here is what I have found out,the important parts are framed by this: *** ***
Unfortunately the descriptions of the side effects are vague.
The address of the website from which this information came follows. Please follow the link for more information about this medication.
Adverse Effects
Nausea occurs in about 25 of women taking Postinor-2 and vomiting occurs in about 5 of women taking Postinor-2.
***Bleeding patterns may be temporarily disturbed***, but most women will have their next menstrual period at the expected time.
***Some women may experience bleeding or spotting after taking Postinor-2*** and some may experience early or delayed onset of menses. If the next menstrual period is more than 7 days overdue pregnancy should be excluded.
For more information, an excellent resource is the pharmacy where you purchased this medication. Pharmacists know more than doctors about how medications work as well as their side effects. Just call the store up and ask to speak to a pharmacist. Ask the same questions you asked here, and any others that come to mind.
