About Lyndsay Mercier
Expertise
I can answer questions regarding pregnancy symptoms, possible ways of becoming pregnant, how to help avoid pregnancy, various options regarding your choices involving an unplanned pregnancy, etc. I can offer advice, answers, a kind word, or just listen.

Experience
I was once a pregnant 15 year old, and it was traumatizing. I considered adoption, abortion, and parenthood and came to a conclusion. I was fortunate enough to have a supportive family, but not everyone is as lucky as I was. I have firsthand experience on what it feels like to discover an unplanned, teen pregnancy, as well as experience with coping.

Organizations
I am the President of VOX:Voices for Planned Parenthood, which is a non-profit student organization focusing on sexual health and education, as well as reproductive rights and freedom.

Publications
I have written an article regarding my own teen pregnancy story which will be published on www.Teenwire.com on June 24th.

Education/Credentials
I am currently a senior at Northern Michigan University majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology and Gender Studies. I am trained and certified in Sexual Health Peer Education and am currently teaching a college course focusing on STI prevention.

Question
Okay so..
I am a 16 year old girl and I recently lost my virginity. There was no blood, no discomfort, just panic after I realized we didn't use a condom. It was in the heat of the moment, but that isn't an excuse. I hope and pray I don't get any STDs, but I also hope I'm not pregnant.

It happened Thursday and I ovulated on the Sunday. I have been to expert websites and even though he didn't ejaculate inside of me.. his pre-ejaculate can stillget me pregnant. They had also said that when you are so close to ovulating, the sperm can survive up to 3 days inside, waiting for the egg.. So, my question is..

Could I be pregnant ?  I know it's a possibility.. I just want to know the chances.

Thanks.

Answer
Molly,

You're right, there is a chance you could become pregnant. But, in all honesty, the chances are rather small since he didn't ejaculate. Its true that pre-ejaculate can push out some semen that may have been leftover from a previous ejaculation, but as I said, the chances are on the small side.

Please don't make a habit of this, and be sure to have condoms ready for next time.

If something like this ever happens again, you can use emergency contraception to greatly reduce your chances of becoming pregnant. Just let me know if you would like to know anything else!

Thanks,

Lyndsay
