Question QUESTION: im 17 years old, i frequently have sex with my boyfriend and we alway use a
condom and are smart about it. my period is almost always 28 days apart,
last month it was a day early and i was suppose to get it 3 days ago and it
hasnt come. i took the first response pregnancy test last night and it showed
negative. I just got back from vacation where my sleeping patern and eating
was different then normal. due to being on vacation i became constipated
because i was uncomfortable going to the bathroom there, could any of this
play a role?
i dont see how i really could be pregnant, but why is my period late? i do
have breast tenderness but that *always* happens before i get my period..
other websites i have read breast tenderness is a key sign of pregnancy, but i
always get that before my period...
ANSWER: Dear Stephanie,
I would take the test again, this time make sure it is after a full night's sleep. The longer you sleep, the more concentrated your urine is, and the pregnancy hormone will be detected more easily.
By the time you read this, you may have already gotten your period. That happens all of the time. Your sleeping and eating pattern could have thrown off your internal clock, and quite possibly delayed your period. Stranger things have happened.
If you still don't have your period in a week, and the tests keep coming back negative, a doctor's visit may be in order. Your doctor can find out why your period is delayed.
Take care,
Deb

QUESTION: I'm just really curious about how much of a chance that i am or not... like i
said, we use condoms every time, put them on properly, they have never
broken, afterwards i squeeze the bottom several times to see if it leaks and if
it ever seemed that way i made sure by running it under water...
ive been freaking out reading all these other people's posts and going on to
all these websites and theyre like oh if your breasts are sensative your
pregnant!! but i get that before my period starts and during. if i were
pregnant would that hurt around the same time, or no telling?? i also read
that stressing out is most likely not going to let my period come, and i know
its not going to help anything by stressing out, but i cant help it.
if it doesnt come in a week i cant tell my mother oh yeah i need to go to the
doctor, my period isnt coming, she would obviously know...
Answer Dear Stephanie,
When I said this:
"If you still don't have your period in a week, and the tests keep coming back negative, a doctor's visit may be in order. Your doctor can find out why your period is delayed."
I meant to go to the doctor's to find out why you haven't had your period, because the reason has to be something OTHER THAN pregnancy, because all of the tests you would have taken would have been negative.
Anyway, I can't see how it's possible that you are pregnant, given everything you've said in your question. Have you taken another test yet, in the way that I described previously?
You can't be pregnant if no sperm/semen got into your body, and according to the information you've given me, none has.
Take another test and believe the results. Then try to relax so your body can get back to normal. I missed my period for an entire year once, and my doctor was baffled. It turned out to be from a medication I was taking.
