Subject: if my girlfriend pregnant?

Question
QUESTION: "hi my name is john, my girlfriend earlier in the month has been getting her normal symptoms of her period coming but
the other day me and my girlfriend had intercourse with a condom on, i was sure i was careful and did a water test after sex with the condom to make sure there wasnt a hole in it or anything. But as of today her period is 9 days late and i got worried so i bought her a home preg test, after she took it it came out negative. and im still really worried for her because i dont want anything to happen to her. but could she still be pregnant even if they test says its negative, im really scared and i dont noe wat to do.. = i really apreciate ur help"

ANSWER: Dear John,

Did she take the test first thing in the morning?  If she did, then I would trust those results.  I don't blame you for being worried though, because 9 days is a long time for a period to be delayed.

I would recommend she see her doctor to see what is wrong.  There are many things which can cause a missed period, such as hormonal issues, pituitary gland issues, medication side effects, and stress.

Take care,

Deb

QUESTION: yes we took a test in the morning which was he first urination of the day and it came out negative. She claims that shes getting sick lately and has not been eating healthy(alot of fried stuff and fast food). Would that also lead to a delayed period?

btw thanks for the response deb

ANSWER: Dear John,

It would depend on what was making her sick.  Eating fried foods and other non-healthy things shouldn't cause a delayed period,  but the underlying issue making her sick could be the culprit.

Some women are pregnant even though the tests keep coming up negative.  This is very rare, though.  Her doctor will give her a blood test to determine pregnancy, which is more accurate than a urine test.

Her doctor really is in the best position to determine what the problem is.

You are very welcome for the responses, and I hope you both find out what the problem is soon.

Take care,

Deb

QUESTION: hi deb, im sorry if i keep asking questions and interrupting your busy schedule, but this morning i had a talk with my girlfriend and she says that she has a feeling its coming soon because the cramps are returning and she had them this morning. I dont know what to think anymore... maybe if u can explain what this means ill feel better or something but can u help me?

ps. im sorry if im being very vague and confusing but im just feeling really uneasy about all this =\

thanks

Answer
Dear John,

Women generally know what it feels like just before they get their periods, especially if they get a hard to miss symptom like cramps.  The cramps she is describing feel pretty close to what you have experienced when you have stomach ache from constipation or gas.

My reason for explaining what they feel like is to illustrate how unmistakable they are, and because she gets this feeling each month, you should believe her when she tells you she thinks she will be getting her period soon.

I would relax if I were you for the following reasons:

1)  She has taken home pregnancy tests and they are negative.
2)  She knows what it feels like just before she gets her period, and she is telling you that she is getting that feeling now.

Please let me know how this all turns out.

Take care,

Deb
