Teen Pregnancy - pregnancy worry

Expert: Deborah - 10/18/2009

Question
i am on the yasmin pill, but currently taking antibiotics which are erythromycin at 1000mg a day, and have been taking these for nearly two weeks. me and my boyfriend started to have unprotected sex, however we stopped and used a condomn. i am worried over pre-ejaculation causing me pregnancy. am i right to?

Answer
Dear Camara,

There is no sperm in pre-ejaculate.  However, if a man ejaculates once during the day, does NOT urinate, and then has sex, leftover sperm in the penis could mix with pre-ejaculate and cause pregnancy.  However, if this didn't happen, or if a man ejaculates, urinates, and then has sex, no sperm will be in the pre-ejaculate.  Urinating clears away any leftover sperm.

Even if there were sperm mixed in, the chance of pregnancy would be very low.  I wouldn't worry.  The only time I would worry would be if the man did not pull out in time.  This is the main way women get pregnant while using the pull out method.

Good luck,

Deb
