Question
hello,I am 15 and me and my boyfriend have been going out for a year and we decided to have sex on sunday (it is thursday) he wore a condom. I have had back aches and my stomache has been feeling like it is in knots. I would take a test but my mom would find out and i cant let that happen. I have been researching alot and nothing is really helping me. I need to know if my back aches and stomache knots are symptoms of pregnancy and what are the chances of me being pregnant if he used a condom? I am very confused.

Answer
Dear Rebecca,

Those symptoms you are having are not related to pregnancy.  It takes at least 2 weeks after sex to even become pregnant.  The egg has to be fertilized, travel down the fallopian tubes, and fully implant in the uterus before pregnancy officially begins, and before symptoms can be experienced.

It would be too soon to take a pregnancy test now, anyway.  You have to wait until 2 weeks after sex in order to take a test, for the same reasons I just gave you about having pregnancy symptoms.  The first symptom most women get if they are pregnant is a late period.  If your next period is late, you can get a home pregnancy test at a drugstore and take it in any bathroom.  You do not have to be at home, so you do not have to worry about your parents ever finding out.

As for what your chances are of being pregnant, I have no idea.  Only you and your boyfriend could possibly know if there were any holes in the condom, if the condom was on properly, and whether or not the condom slipped off at any time during sex.

No birth control method is 100% effective.

Best wishes,

Deb
