Question Here's my situation. About a month ago I stopped taking birth control. I got my period as normal. 3 Days after I took my last birth control pill my boyfriend and I had sex, and he didn't pull out in time. I took plan B about 45 minutes after this happened. Now I should have gotten my period about 5 days ago. Usually I can tell when I'm getting close to my period and this time I have no symptoms whatsoever. I took a home pregnancy test and it came up negative, but a friend told me that you have to wait several weeks for the pregnancy test to be accurate. I'm really worried that I could still be pregnant. Any advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated
Answer Dear Mallory,
You have to wait at least two weeks after the date of unprotected sex before you can test accurately. Plan B can delay a period, so that might be all this is. I really don't think you are pregnant.
My advice would be to retake the test when the 2 weeks have passed. If you want, you could have that test backed up by a blood test performed at a clinic.
