Question I am 16 years old and 33 weeks pregnant. Everything is going great so far and I'm more excited then I ever have been in my life to see my baby girl, but I was wondering, since after the pregnancy I plan on going back to school, if it's going to be hard to switch my baby to bottle feeding. My plan was to spend 4 weeks of my homebound time from doing regular breast feeding and then during the last two weeks I was going to switch to storing the breast milk and feed her with it from the bottle, so then when I go back to school my mom and my boyfriend can feed her while I'm away. My question is, what should I do if my baby doesn't want or like the bottle when I go back to school?
Answer Hi Stephanie,
Your baby will eat. It may take her a little bit to get used to the bottle, but if you make it all that is available, she will eat. Get the bottles with the plastic bag inside so she wont get so much gas. It is really good that you have a plan to go back to school, make sure that you stick with it. Your mom has experience feeding babies- she will be able to handle it just fine. You will freak out because your baby will cry at first. But she will be fine. My son did not ever get the hang of breastfeeding, so I pumped only. It will be up to you what your schedule is based on how your child is. A month worth of bleeding nipples because she cant latch on is just plain silly. You may need to switch to bottles earlier. Either way, she will be hungry & with a little patience, she will eat. Good luck.
