Subject: I want to adopt my 13 yr. old neice....
Question My neice is 13, and will be 14 in a few months... Her mom is a major druggie, prostitute, and gambling junkie. I want to ger her out of there. There are always bad men around my young neice, and I am afraid that something bad will happen and things will be out of control she could end up getting hurt, raped, pregnant, or possibly even step on one of her mom's needles. I am only 22, but I am willing to give up my freedom to help her get out of there. If she is only 13, almost 14... Does she have any say in where she lives? What can we do to get her safe? She told me that she wanted to leave ASAP to come live with me. HELP!! I am her last hope. Her dad is a druggie, my grandma can't handle her... I am all that's left if she is to make it out of that house and NOT be like her mom...
Answer Hi Erica,
It sounds not that so simple. I am glad you are concerned and want to help your niece.
My only suggestion for you to place a call to child protection services as soon as possible for her own safety reasons, have her removed from the house and place her with the relatives, it could be YOU as aunt who can provide for her in your own home.
She is way too young to make her own legal decisions, therefore she has no say where she wants to live unless child protection agency social worker considers you to take her in, they usually prefer to place children with relatives instead in the foster system with strangers due to her age.
Good luck and keep me posted with your updates. You have a wonderful day.
Doc Jerry
