Expert: Spencer Holcombe Date: 11/15/2006 Subject: 2 Brother Fax Machines wont Talk to Each other??
Question I bought a new Brother 7220 MultiFunction Printer for my home office. This was to replace an old brother I had that was having trouble feeding papaer. I have the 7220 hooked to my phone and it shares a line with my DSL. I have filters on all phones and one at the fax machine. This is the exact same setup I had previously with the old fax that was having issues feeding paper (but faxing my office OK).
The issue is that now the new fax will not send a fax from my home to my office. It dials and makes computer sounds (like a modem) but it will not connect to the office fax. It will say "Busy No Responce". The odd thing is that I can send a fax to anyone else without problem.
I thought it was a problem with the office fax (Brother Fax-4100), but the office fax is working just fine. It sends and recivies to other numbers just fine, it just wont fax to the home.
I have upgraded drivers and firmware on both.
I have removed all other phones at home from the phone system and removed the DSL and I get the same problem.
I have called brother and all they do is ask me to send them a fax and when it works ok to them they refuse to help me any further.
Any other ideas, this is driving me insane!
Thanks,
Chris
Answer Chris,
I really can only offer a hunch, but I'd check the number that your fax is dialing to connect to your office. if you can connect to other faxes, and receive them as well it's not your lines or your machine per say, CHECK YOUR SETINGS
