Subject: how to buy a 1-800 number

Question
QUESTION: i followed the thread on how to buy a 1-800 number, but there is no mention of how to find out who the service provider is. I am in a similar predicament, but have no idea of how to ascertain who the provider is. Any advice?

ANSWER: Ken,
Contact the present user and ASK.
You can also check the net using the number as the search item, or contact the carriers.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: how can i find out who the carrier is? I've have tried to contact the company via the number, but it appears it is only being used as a fax nuumber. I have tried various search techniques, i too work for an website, but there is no other information i can find. Will the carrier be able to help with that? Any other options/advice you can give?

Answer
Ken,
Fax the number and see if they respond. Carriers can tell you if the number is theirs, or belongs to another carrier. Most will stop at saying it isn't one of theirs, so you might be making a few calls.

                            Good luck,
                              Spencer
