Topic: Telecom (Phone, Fax, E-mail)

Subject: 5.8 static

Question
I had a 2.4 phone and a friend of mine who works for the phone company said that whenever I called him it had allot of static and so did allot of other people.  So I upgraded to a 5.8 same thing.  I heard that the refrigerator or fluorescent lights might cause interference so I moved the base to the other end of the house and upstairs but I am still getting static.  Any ideas.

Answer
The technology of the basic cordless home phone has not evolved over the last 15 years. There are many variables that can be causing the static. Even the "silent" mating call of the Mississippi Small horned Bat has been atributed to static over the switched telco cordless land lines. I would recommend porting your home number to a cell phone. There are monthly plans out there that may less expensive than your home phone and provide both better quality and more features. Good Luck.
