Question
Hi Spencer,
Hope you can help and advise. I have phone and internet through Cablevision (digital). I would like to send and receive faxes however I have been told that fax machines are not compatible with digital service. Is this true? If so, what alternatives are available without changing my provider? Thanks for any help you can provide. Ken

Answer
Ken,
It WILL work, depending on your fax, it's settings, and your provider. Most fax machines today can send/receive in digital format, however you may need a "modem", or might have to change the settings. Contact your cable company for specific brands/models that are compatable with your service, as well as most electronic stores for details. Digital faxs are known to cause problems with other services/devices on the same line so make sure you advise them of any other devices/services you use, and get the settings (if any) for each. Ask if they have a trial time that you can return it for an exchange/refund, should you buy a new one. Now would be a good time to make a list of EVERYTHING you have hooked up your your cable service --phone, computer, tivo, alarm, caller id, television, etc......   Spencer
