Question
I am setting up a home office for telecommuting (not a home based business). I will be ordering a new residential line for my home, and would like to set up that line to handle both my phone and fax.
I was thinking of getting distinctive ring with 2 numbers to handle the task, but wasn't sure if I would be able to receive a fax while I'm on the phone (receive 2 calls at once, in other words). I know I can only make 1 outgoing call at a time, but didn't know how it worked on incoming calls (a phone company rep said it would work, but I wasn't convinced that she was very well informed).
My local service is provided by Verizon.
Any advice you can give that might make this work would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer
John, One line with call waiting, and an adapter sold at most electronic stores, or included with your fax will do the trick. Your incoming fax calls would be handled just like a voice call while you are on the phone. You're correct to be cautious, but remember MOST telephone company service reps are well trained, and have computer access for any question that might be out of the norm. Good luck, and enjoy your new "office".  Spencer
