Question My AT&T 2455 base phone and extension phone both have suddenly started displaying a "searching for base" message. Incoming calls are fine, and answering machine is fine, but I have no dial tone and cannot make outgoing calls. Have part 2 of the manual online, but no information there. Can't find part 1 of the manual--if it exists! Phone purchased way back in 2001 or 2002. A second extension has stopped working entirely and will not charge though the battery works (or did, prior to "searching for base") in other extension. Likewise, the charging base worked for the other extension.
Is it time to ask Santa for another set?

Answer Phyllis,
Although your phone(s) are six years young, I'd check and replace the batteries before buying a new system.
Also, try unplugging the Base from the electric and telephone outlets, turning on all handsets till batteries are drained completely, then plugging in again and charging the batteries till fully charged. (this should also reset your system to it's state when you brought it home).
If neither of those procedures fix the phones, then its time to start baking cookies for Santa and his helpers.
Happy Holidays, Spencer
