Expert: Spencer Holcombe Date: 8/10/2006 Subject: buzzing on landline
Question I have an AT+T landline phone in my house. About 50% of the time there is a loud buzzing on it. It is the only phone on that jack and no other outlets are near. It seems the buzzing will last for weeks at a time then suddenly just stop. Suggestions on how to fix?
Answer kc,
Buzzing on a line is usually caused by a crossed or "shorted" wire.
Check all the connections at the jack, and your telephone line cord for an exposed wire touching anything else. Also check all the other jacks and wiring in your home as a "short" at one location can cause a buzz on any phone at the location. Check for frayed, worn, lines and any found should be replaced.
Also check the jacks for any damage or paint etc...
