You can't simply use a duplex jack and plug the TAD in before this fax. The TAD must be plugged into the out on the back of the MFC, UNLESS you subscribe to "distinctive ring" service, and have set up your equipment for it. You can't have a phone plugged into the same line as this fax otherwise.
I have the same equipment (except my TAD base is cordless) and the caller ID is working on both fax and phone. As far as I can tell, CID is auto on the phone as long as you subscribe to it. Check your MFC, and make sure that it's set on "External TAD" not Fax/Tel.
Press Menu > 0 > 1
Use directional pad to select "Exteranl TAD"
Press Set
Press Stop/Exit
If you're all ready using "Exteranl TAD," then I'm not sure what else it could be...
