AboutDr. Joseph de Beauchamp Expertise I am an MBA professor and I publish on over 2000 public companies, a good portion of these belong to the telecommunications industry.
Question I have inherited some Baby Bell stocks consisting of SBC 7k, ATT 1k, Lucent 1k, Bell South 4k, Comcast 1k, Vodafone 2k,Verizon 5k and an odd ball Prudential 3k. I'd like to use this for college in roughly 7 years. Without having a crystal ball, should I hang onto these or sell and place into something else, say a index 500 mutual fund. I feel I an weighted too heavy in the telecom but I'm not sure what the outlook is for the above companies and the field they are in. Any advise would be great appreciated. Thank you, Chip
Answer I think you should take your certificates into to a discount broker dealer. They will make sure the tittle for these stocks will be corrected to your name. Then, when this is done, in your name, you can select a mutual fund. I like a mutual fund since you do not appear to have much capital. You should have over 10 stocks to keep your risk lower. You might want to look at one of the high rated no load funds to save some money, something with an international scope.
